Proposed Road Projects

County Line Road

County Line Road serves as a major east/west direct connection between US-19 and US-41. The corridor is heavily used for industrial, commercial business, residential communities, and an emergency evacuation route. As part of the MPO’s 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan, Hernando County is planning to improve approximately 2.8-mile segment from Cobblestone Drive to Spring Time Street to provide capacity improvements to help accommodate level of service demands and improve the safety of the roadway.  The planned improvements will include widening the existing two-lane undivided roadway to a four-lane divided roadway, adding sidewalk, a shared-use path, along with street lighting and additional intersection signalization if warranted. Additional associated work will include aboveground and underground utility relocation, and signal coordination.

The corridor serves residential communities on both the east and west side of the roadway with commercial business near SR-50. As part of the MPO’s 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan. Hernando County is planning to improve approximately 1.5-mile segment from Ken Austin Parkway to Hexam Road to provide capacity improvements to help accommodate level of service demands and improve the safety of the roadway. Anderson Snow Road/Corporate Blvd Intersection

Due to growth and development, there is a need to improve the intersection of Anderson Snow Road and Corporate Boulevard. The improvements are to reconstruct and widen existing Anderson Snow Road and install a traffic signal at the intersection. This improvement will be an interim improvement to set up Anderson Snow Road for the ultimate typical section in the future. A raised median, with outside paved shoulders will be introduced, as well as a southbound left turn lane and a northbound right turn lane on Anderson Snow Road. Based on traffic projections, additional lengthening of turn lanes on Corporate Boulevard along with drainage improvements to Anderson Snow Road will include adding roadside swales and culverts for conveyance to the existing Drainage Retention Areas (DRA). These DRA’s will be analyzed for capacity and enlarged to meet the proposed storage requirements. Additional improvements include intersection lighting per FDOT criteria, ADA sidewalks, curb ramps, and new signage and pavement markings, along with utility relocation.

Cortez Oaks (50 to Star Road)

A new two-lane facility to provide additional north/south capacity between US 19 and Sunshine Grove Rd. This additional roadway will provide motorists with an alternative north/south route in this area of Hernando County as it continues to develop. This will also provide quicker access for emergency vehicles to access the hospitals in Hernando County.

Improving Pickup/Drop-off Lanes for Schools

This will provide funding for improving drop off and pick up facilities at various schools in Hernando County. The County Commission will work with the School Board to determine the appropriate locations for these improvements to help alleviate congestion at drop off and pick up times.

Ayers Intersection

Ayers Road and Culbreath Road are major collector roads located in Hernando County, Florida. The intersection of Ayres Rd, Culbreath Rd and Hayman Rd currently has single approach lane on all four (4) approach legs with stop conditions on Ayres Rd and Hayman Rd. Due to an increase use of Ayers Rd and Culbreath Rd, and increase in the number of vehicle crashes Hernando County is planning to improve intersection with the construction of a Roundabout at this intersection. The planned improvements will improve traffic flow and roadway safety.
